The John Wick universe is gearing up for another high-octane entry with the upcoming spin-off Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the film since its announcement, but the buzz truly intensified when it was confirmed that Keanu Reeves would reprise his legendary role as the retired hitman. With the release date fast approaching this week, June 6, 2025, the spotlight is turning toward Reeves’ involvement and what his presence means for the wider franchise.
Len Wiseman, the director of Ballerina, recently shared insights in an interview with GamesRadar+ about working with Reeves on the film. He praised the star’s dedication and the iconic nature of his performance. “He was wonderful to work with. Stepping back from it, you could feel that this is iconic,” Wiseman said.

Wiseman further highlighted Reeves’ commitment to perfection. “But also he’s so committed, he’s so hard on himself, and you see why he is who he is.” This insight sheds light on the intense work ethic behind the on-screen charisma, an aspect that has helped define Reeves’ enduring appeal. Wiseman added, “We’ll continue to shoot until the sun goes down to get it right. And there’s a reason that we all line up to watch him, so being able to be a part of that was really fun to see.”
This spin-off is a major step forward in expanding the John Wick universe, transitioning the directorial baton from Chad Stahelski, the franchise’s longtime director, to Wiseman. The script comes from Shay Hatten, known for his work on Rebel Moon, promising a fresh take on the assassin mythos.

Alongside Reeves and Ana de Armas, the cast features returning favorites Ian McShane as Winston, Anjelica Huston reprising her role as The Director, and a posthumous appearance by Lance Reddick as Charon. Norman Reedus, best known for The Walking Dead, also joins the ensemble, adding new energy to the story.
Filming began in late 2022 in Prague, Czech Republic. The plot centers on Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), a young woman training in the deadly Ruska Roma assassin tradition during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. As the franchise grows, Ballerina aims to deliver fresh perspectives.
With Wiseman’s comments and Reeves’ anticipated appearance, the film looks set to be another memorable chapter for the John Wick saga.
