Netflix has officially launched American Manhunt: Osama bin Laden as of May 14, bringing a tense, deep-dive documentary to screens across the globe. Initially set to premiere back in March, the three-part series was postponed without warning, sparking a wave of confusion among subscribers. Netflix later clarified the delay was due to a “scheduling shift,” but gave no specific reasons. The wait, however, is now over.
Directed by Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, the docuseries is the latest addition to Netflix’s American Manhunt franchise, following previous entries on O.J. Simpson and the Boston Marathon bombing. This chapter turns its lens on the shadowy, decade-long operation to track and eliminate al-Qaida’s elusive leader, Osama bin Laden.

The show traces the aftermath of 9/11—an event that reshaped global security policy and American identity. The story is framed not by generals or presidents, but by the analysts, agents, and soldiers whose daily decisions pulled the thread that eventually led to the compound in Abbottabad. “Being thrown into the driver’s seat after the worst attack in American history would rattle anyone,” Loushy and Sivan told Tudum. “But the intelligence analysts didn’t have time to grieve or reflect. They had a mission at hand: to figure out who did this and stop them before the next attack.”
Featuring interviews with former CIA Director Leon Panetta, intelligence veteran Henry A. Crumpton, and others from the Department of Defense, FBI, and Obama-era White House, the series seeks to humanize the operation. Journalists like John Miller and Nayyera Haq offer further insight into the public and classified narratives that unfolded during the hunt.

The directors make it clear: this is not a sweeping chronicle of the War on Terror. “It tells the story of the people tasked to find the world’s most wanted terrorist and bring him to justice,” they said. “It [was] a hunt that changed their lives, America, and the world as we know it.”
With raw footage, first-hand accounts, and high-stakes storytelling, American Manhunt: Osama bin Laden drops viewers straight into one of the 21st century’s most consequential missions. The hunt is over—but the story is only just being fully told.
