As fans await the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine crossover later this month, Marvel Studios is already setting its sights on the future. Up next, Sam Wilson embraces the iconic Captain America mantle and takes on the shield for good in Captain America: Brave New World.
Anthony Mackie has been a prominent figure in the MCU, playing Sam Wilson since his introduction in Winter Soldier as The Falcon, a trusted ally of Chris Evans’ Captain America. His journey continued through Captain America: Civil War (2016) and several Avengers installments. Mackie’s pivotal role culminated in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which documented Sam’s transformation into Captain America.
Harrison Ford makes his Marvel debut as General Ross, a character previously played by the late William Hurt in the MCU. Ross aims to enlist Captain America in an official military role after assuming the presidency. Meanwhile, Wilson uncovers a complex global conspiracy. Although we’re given only a fleeting glimpse of Ford as the Red Hulk, the intrigue is palpable.
The trailer heavily features Giancarlo Esposito, who had been teasing his role in a Marvel Studios project for several weeks. We see him playing a mysterious villainous character, although specific details remain vague.
The film will take on a political action thriller vibe, similar in tone to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. At this year’s CinemaCon Marvel head Kevin Feige assured fans, “no aliens, no alien invasions, no time travel,” before unveiling a glimpse of footage. He described it as a “relatively grounded action film.”
Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for release in February 2025, it’s directed by Julius Onah from a screenplay penned by Malcom Spellman, creator of Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
