Back to Black has dropped its first teaser trailer and given us the best look so far at the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, it stars Marisa Abela as the troubled singer.
Backed by Amy’s classic song ‘Back to Black’ the trailer also gives us glimpses of Eddie Marsan as her father Mitch Winehouse and Jack O’Connell as Blake Fielder-Civil.
Reportedly made with the blessing of family members Back to Black will be a never before seen look into Amy’s early life and rise to fame. Following her as she writes and records her grounding breaking studio album ‘Back to Black’.
The official synopsis for the film reads, “A journey that took her from the craziness and colour of ’90s Camden High Street to global adoration – and back again, Back to Black crashes through the looking glass of celebrity to watch this journey from behind the mirror, to see what Amy saw, to feel what she felt.”
“Told from Amy’s perspective, the film is an unapologetic look at the woman behind the phenomenon and the relationship that inspired one of the most legendary albums of all time.”
Back to Black is written by Matt Greenhalgh, while reuniting with Taylor-Johnson following their collaboration in 2009 on John Lennon biopic, Nowhere Boy.
Back to Black is due to be released in the UK April 12, 2024 & May 17, 2024 in the US.
