Netflix have shared a first look at Eddie Murphy’s return to his classic character Axel Foley, with the teaser trailer for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. It’s the first time in 30 years Foley has been on our screens after 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III and Murphy hasn’t aged a day.
Officially titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the film catches up with detective Axel Foley who is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to uncover a conspiracy. Kevin Bacon also joins the cast alongside Taylour Paige as Foley’s estranged daughter.

In an interview with People Murphy spoke about his return to the character, saying, “It’s a really physical movie and I had to do some physical stuff,” he said. “I like to be on the couch, I don’t like to be jumping over and shooting and running. And I had to do some jumping and shooting and running. And as a result at the end of the movie, I had a knee brace and my back is messed up. But the movie is gonna be special.”
Gordon-Levitt shared his excitement about the project, saying, “Going to work on ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ isn’t like work. You think my life is a dream. I’m riding in a helicopter next to Eddie Murphy, and we’re making each other laugh.”

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is directed by Mark Molloy with Murphy on board as producer with veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer who was behind the original Beverly Hills Cop.
The production suffered years of setbacks and script rewrites but is now set for a Summer 2024 release.
