Brad Pitt’s New Racing Movie Unveiled in Visually Stunning ‘F1’ Trailer

Catch your first glimpse of Brad Pitt and Damson Idris in action on the racetrack!

The debut trailer for Joseph Kosinski’s film F1 dropped yesterday during the Formula 1 British Grand Prix on Sunday, offering a first glimpse of Brad Pitt racing in some of the world’s fastest cars.

Pitt is set to star as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver who raced in his prime during the 90s but was forced to retire after a terrible crash. Despite his retirement from F1, Hayes continued to compete in other racing events. The film follows his unexpected return to the industry when he is asked to mentor a young, promising driver named Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris.

Additionally, Javier Bardem joins the cast as the team owner of ‘APXGP,’ the worst team in F1, which has yet to score a single point and consistently finishes in last place, with their cars occupying the 21st and 22nd positions.

The film is made in full collaboration with Formula 1 and features former F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton as a producer to ensure authenticity. This collaboration aims to immerse the audience in the exhilarating and cinematic world of racing. Pitt has previously shared insights into the tone of the film, stating:

The vibe is amazing, to get to be part of it and tell our story. The teams have opened their doors to us. I play a guy who raced in the 1990s who has a horrible crash and disappears, to race in other disciplines. His friend, played by Javier Bardem, the team owner, contacts him. They’re last in the grid, they haven’t scored a point. But they have a young phenom, played by Damson Idris, and they bring me in as kind of a hail mary. You’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen the G-forces like this, the footage is really, really exciting.

The creative team behind Top Gun: Maverick has brought their expertise to the new F1 movie, and their influence is already evident. A key factor in the success of Maverick was its blend of practical flying footage with seamless special effects. And director Joseph Kosinski has applied the same filmmaking techniques to the world of Formula 1 racing, which is an exciting prospect.

F1 is in cinemas and IMAX June 27, 2025.
