Netflix is gearing up for a summer of spectacle, and leading the charge is The Old Guard 2. The streamer just dropped the first trailer for the sequel to its 2020 breakout hit, spotlighting the return of Charlize Theron as Andy — an immortal mercenary who, this time around, is learning to navigate life without her defining trait: immortality.
Back for more are familiar faces: KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. But the sequel also introduces heavyweight newcomers, including Uma Thurman and Henry Golding. The addition of Thurman hints at a more personal, possibly mythic, threat — and the trailer doesn’t disappoint on that front. “She is the first of the immortals,” Golding’s character warns. “She knows your histories, your relationships. I am scared of what she is capable of.”

This time, Victoria Mahoney steps into the director’s chair, bringing her experience from Lovecraft Country and The Rise of Skywalker. Greg Rucka, who penned the original comic series with artist Leandro Fernandez, returns to co-write the screenplay alongside Sarah L. Walker. The sequel seems determined to expand both the lore and the emotional stakes.
Andy, once unkillable, now faces a world where every cut might count. In one tense exchange from the trailer, she wonders aloud: “Do you think she knows that I’ve lost my immortality?” Vulnerability, it seems, has joined the team — and it’s not playing nice.

Theron, also a producer on the film, promises the sequel will cater to both loyal fans and new viewers. “There’s something for everyone in this movie,” she said. “Fans who loved the first film, fans who love the original graphic novels — and brand-new fans who are looking for insane action, grounded and relatable characters, gorgeous locations and a global cast of superstars.”
The Old Guard 2 hits Netflix on July 2. Watch the first trailer below.
