Apple TV+ viewers might finally get answers about Dark Matter’s interdimensional travel and the fate of the main characters, as the streamer has renewed the sci-fi drama for a second season. With Blake Crouch, the mastermind behind the original book, returning to helm the series, Season 2 is set to venture into uncharted territory. Since Season 1 covered most of the novel’s plot, Crouch is taking the story off-script for the upcoming season.
Dark Matter, starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, is a gripping sci-fi drama from Sony Pictures Television. The series centers on Jason Dessen (played by Edgerton), a physicist and professor whose life takes a dark turn when he’s abducted on the streets of Chicago and thrust into an alternate version of his own existence. As wonder quickly turns to horror, Jason must navigate a maze of alternate realities, each representing a life he could have lived. Determined to return to his true family, he embarks on a perilous journey, facing the most formidable enemy imaginable: another version of himself.
In an interview with Deadline, Crouch shared his excitement about the future of Dark Matter, stating, “There’s so much more story to tell.” He emphasized that the narrative has only scratched the surface, with endless possibilities still to explore in the series’ complex, multiverse-driven world.
Thanks to everyone who tuned-in for season one—book fans and new fans—and of course our partners at Apple and Sony, my amazing producing partner, Matt Tolmach, our tremendous cast and crew, and the great city of Chicago—you were so good to us. In the process of writing and filming season one, we discovered that there’s so much more story to tell, and we’ve only scratched the surface of these characters as they fight for survival and to find their way home through a landscape of mind-bending realities. See you in the Box.
