Denzel Washington’s most recent turn as Robert McCall in The Equalizer 3 has found new life on Netflix, where it has climbed to the number-one spot on the UK streaming chart. The action-thriller, directed by Antoine Fuqua, has gained plenty of attention from viewers since its release on the platform.
Set against the coastal backdrop of southern Italy, the third entry in the series follows McCall as he tries to leave his violent past behind. He settles into a quiet town in Sicily, only to discover that the peaceful facade hides criminal activity. As a local mafia group threatens the townspeople, McCall is drawn back into a familiar cycle of retribution.

Denzel’s character, still haunted by the weight of past decisions, finds a momentary peace in his new surroundings. That is, until violence returns to his doorstep. The conflict escalates quickly, leading McCall to take action in the only way he knows how decisively and without mercy.
Dakota Fanning appears as CIA agent Emma Collins, tasked with uncovering a broader conspiracy. Her path intersects with McCall’s investigation, creating tension between government interests and personal justice. It marks a reunion between Fanning and Washington, who last shared the screen in 2004’s Man on Fire. Their chemistry remains intact, bringing added energy to their scenes.

As the plot unfolds, McCall’s past and present collide. The film explores his internal conflict between seeking peace and returning to the violent skills that once defined him. His relationship with Collins adds a layer of complexity, as both characters navigate trust and duty in the face of escalating danger.
While the film was initially released in cinemas in 2023, its surge in popularity on Netflix suggests strong continued interest in McCall’s story. Whether this is truly the end for the Equalizer remains to be seen, but fans clearly aren’t finished watching just yet.
The Equalizer 3 is now streaming in the UK & US on Netflix.
