Stephen Graham to Play a Serial Killer in Upcoming Apple TV+ Thriller

Liev Schreiber & Zazie Beetz hunt Stephen Graham’s serial killer in new Apple TV+ show.

Apple TV+ is diving into darker territory with its newest drama series, a tense crime thriller starring Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz, and Stephen Graham. The still-untitled show will center on a psychological battle between a haunted detective and a deeply manipulative killer.

The project is based on the popular Joona Linna novels by Lars Kepler, the joint pseudonym of Swedish writing duo Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril. Though originally set in Scandinavia, the series will shift the story’s events to the United States, more specifically small-town Pennsylvania.

Liev Schreiber will star as Jonah Lynn, a former soldier turned homicide detective looking to escape the brutality of Philadelphia. But peace is short-lived. A sadistic serial killer, Jurek Walter (played by Stephen Graham), targets Jonah’s new home and his family. Zazie Beetz plays FBI agent Saga Bauer, Jonah’s adopted daughter, who finds herself in a dangerous race against time.

Apple’s logline reads: “Jonah Lynn an ex-soldier turned homicide detective, tired of working the tough streets of Philadelphia, moves to a small town in western Pennsylvania for a quiet life. But as the town and his family come under attack from the diabolically cunning serial killer Jurek Walter, Jonah must protect all that he holds dear. When the desperate search for Jurek’s last missing victim forces Jonah to send his adopted daughter, FBI Agent Saga Bauer, up against Jurek, how far will Jonah go?”

Rowan Joffe and John Hlavin will write and showrun the series. Directing duties on the first two episodes fall to Tim Van Patten (The Sopranos, Masters of the Air), who also serves as executive producer. The show is produced by A+E Studios in partnership with Range Studios.

Schreiber joins the series following his work on Netflix’s The Perfect Couple and will soon appear in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing. Beetz recently seen Joker: Folie à Deux, while Graham continues his impressive streak with roles in Adolescence and the upcoming Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere.

No release date has been announced yet, but with a team like this, it won’t stay under the radar for long.
