Dexter Morgan isn’t done just yet. The first trailer for Dexter: Resurrection has landed, marking the return of Michael C. Hall’s iconic serial killer, this time brought back to life, literally, following the events of Dexter: New Blood.
The story picks up shortly after Morgan was shot by his own son, Harrison, in the final moments of the previous chapter. Rather than a definitive end, it turns out Dexter survived, waking up from a coma to find Harrison missing. Left with guilt, questions, and a whole lot of blood in his past, Dexter heads for New York City on a new mission: to find his son and try to fix what’s broken.

According to the official synopsis, “When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast.” The reunion won’t be clean, and the city’s darkness may run even deeper than Miami’s. As the synopsis teases, “As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined—and that the only way out is together.”
The show will premiere July 11 on Paramount+ with Showtime, beginning with two episodes and continuing weekly. The new season isn’t short on star power either. Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, Neil Patrick Harris, David Dastmalchian, and more join the cast. Jonathan Lithgow and Jimmy Smits are also confirmed for cameo appearances, reprising roles from earlier seasons.

Showrunner Clyde Phillips helmed both Original Sin and Resurrection, solidifying an increasingly connected Dexter universe that bridges past, present, and what could be the character’s most emotionally fraught future. After years of reinventions, fake deaths, and moral gymnastics, the idea of Dexter navigating guilt in the chaos of New York adds a new twist. Whether he finds redemption or more ruin, one thing’s for sure—he’s not done yet.
Dexter: Resurrection premieres Friday, July 11 on Paramount+ in both the US and UK. In the meantime, check out the short teaser below.
