After more than two decades, the chaos is back, this time with more bodies in the mix. Disney has unveiled a fresh trailer for Freakier Friday, the sequel to the 2003 hit, and it confirms that the body-swapping curse is far from over.
Lindsay Lohan returns as Anna Coleman, now an adult, engaged to Eric (played by Manny Jacinto) and preparing for her upcoming wedding. But not everything is going smoothly, particularly when it comes to blending families. Anna’s daughter, Harper (Julia Butters), and her future stepsister, Lily (Sophia Hammons), are already at war. “A little demon thing with an obnoxious accent,” Harper says in mock vows aimed squarely at Lily. The dysfunction is crystal clear.

Helping Anna prepare is her mother Tess, played once again by Jamie Lee Curtis. But when a fortune teller, shows up at Anna’s bachelorette party, the story takes a hard turn into the supernatural. Bayer’s character announces that Harper and Lily “are called to be family,” and ominously warns Tess and Anna that “they may learn another lesson from ‘walking in each other’s paths.’”
The result? A body-swap that doesn’t just involve mother and daughter, but both daughters as well. This time, it’s Anna and Harper who switch places, while Tess trades bodies with Lily. What follows is a tangled mess of intergenerational confusion and comedy.

In one standout moment, Lily (in Tess’s body) plots: “We can break our parents up for good,” adding fuel to a side-quest that involves reuniting Anna with her high school crush, Jake, yes, Chad Michael Murray is back, leather jacket and all.
Fans will also catch a glimpse of The Parent Trap alum Elaine Hendrix, plus returning and new faces like Rosalind Chao, Mark Harmon, and Never Have I Ever’s Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, though the latter’s role remains under wraps.
Directed by Nisha Ganatra and based on Mary Rodgers’ original novel, the film is produced by Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn, with executive production support from Lohan, Curtis, and others.
Freakier Friday lands in theaters August 8.
