Ted Lasso will be back on the pitch for a 4th season, but beyond that Brett Goldstein is unsure, saying there’s a limit. After what looked like a series finale in season 3, Apple TV+ has confirmed production on a fourth season is set to begin this July.
Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton, shared the update in an interview with Capital FM. “We start shooting in July,” she said. “We thought we’d mourned the loss, and now it’s rising from the dead!”

Season 3 wrapped with Ted heading back to Kansas, a send-off that felt final. But that wasn’t the last chapter. Jason Sudeikis will return as the endlessly positive coach, with Waddingham and Juno Temple (Keeley) also back. Casting beyond that hasn’t been fully revealed, but the core creative team remains intact.
Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent, hasn’t confirmed if he’ll appear onscreen this time. However, he’s still heavily involved behind the scenes, returning as writer and executive producer. When asked about the future of the show on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Goldstein tried to dodge the long-term question. “I think that’s a conversation for Apple and I say that because someone from Apple is pointing a sniper rifle at me as you ask that question,” he joked. Then added, “I think we’d love to do it forever, but I think there’s a limit…”

Fans won’t be left entirely in the dark about what’s coming. Waddingham gave a brief look inside the writers’ room, praising its creative energy. “Our writers are literally Jedi Knights. They’re just incredible,” she told Capital FM. “And we’ve got like a full room of real feminist men. So we’ve got all the fabulous women there, and the men that are in there… it’s just so beautifully drawn.”
One dangling thread from last season was the idea of Rebecca and Keeley starting a women’s team. Whether that storyline moves forward remains to be seen, but it’s a setup ripe with potential.
There’s no release date yet, but with cameras rolling soon, fans can expect AFC Richmond’s return sooner rather than later. Until then, all three seasons remain available on Apple TV+.
