Netflix has just unveiled the first full trailer for their forthcoming noir comedy Hit Man, helmed by Richard Linklater, the director behind School of Rock. The film stars Glen Powell as a straight-laced professor who stumbles upon a hidden talent: posing as a faux hitman. However, his scheme involves setting up his clients for police arrest.
Powell’s career has been on the assent recently with the success of Top Gun Maverick and Anyone But You and he will now star in this new Netflix rom-com.

Loosely based on a true story from the 2001 Texas Monthly magazine article ‘Hit Man,’ the film follows Houston police associate Gary Johnson, portrayed by Powell, as he goes undercover as an assassin to ensnare willing clients for the police. One of his clients, played by Adria Arjona, is trapped in an abusive relationship, compelling Powell’s character to make it his mission to rescue her.
Written and directed by Linklater, he describes the film as follows: “It’s about identity and self and passion. But on a plot level, it’s just a guy who gets in a little too deep. His passions lead him in a direction where he’s deceiving someone he’s in love with, and being someone else. They have to deal with those repercussions.”

The official synopsis for the film reads as follows: “Inspired by an unbelievable true story, a strait-laced professor discovers his hidden talent as a fake hit man. He meets his match in a client who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities.”
Hit Man has been well received from early critic reviews from its festival screenings and currently sits at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hit Man will drop on Netflix June 7.
