It’s a significant year for the Shyamalan family. Just weeks after M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan, unveiled the trailer for her debut film, The Watchers, her father has quickly followed suit with his latest project, Trap, which also includes an appearance from his eldest daughter, Saleka.
Trap stars Josh Hartnett as a dad who is treating his daughter (Ariel Donoghue) by taking her to a Lady Raven (Saleka) concert. The trailer almost immediately reveals that the entire event is actually a trap to catch a sadistic killer, known as “The Butcher.”

The trailer shows Hartnett question the sudden and huge police presence, as the FBI and police surround the building. Then shockingly, it reveals Hartnett to be the killer as we see him watching CCTV footage of his victim on his phone, with the trailer then ending with Hartnett maniacally laughing to himself.
Speaking to Variety Shyamalan describes the film as “dark humor” saying, “It kind of led more and more to this dark humor angle that Servant has and The Visit and Split had, and making sure it’s a fun time for everybody. It’s odd… when you should be terrified and you’re laughing at the same time.”

Shyamalan also spoke highly of his leading man Josh Hartnett saying, “What I’m looking for is someone that’s willing to just let go completely, give themselves over like a play to the movie and leap, leap, leap — don’t protect yourself. And that’s where Josh was when I met him. It was just a feeling of the right person at the right time. I just had the most wonderful time working with him.”
M. Night Shyamalan has a history of outrageous twists and we look forward to seeing what he throws at us with Trap, it will be in cinemas August 2.
