Lionsgate has unveiled the trailer for Greedy People, featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a wildly corrupt cop who persuades a rookie, played by Himesh Patel, to steal a million dollars.
The film delves into the chaos that ensues when the quirky residents of a quaint island town encounter a sensational murder and a million dollars beside the body. This discovery triggers a chain of increasingly poor decisions, humorously disrupting the once-peaceful community.

The official synopsis for the film reads: “Will (Patel) and his rogue partner Terry (Gordon-Levitt) upend their small island town when they accidentally discover one million dollars at a crime scene (of their own making). After the duo unwisely decides to steal the money, the community’s quirky residents are lured into the mad dash for cash — ranging from an expectant mom (Lily James) to a masseur (Simon Rex) to a shrimp company owner (Tim Blake Nelson) — and everyone learns just how far they are willing to go for the almighty dollar.”
Greedy People reunites Himesh Patel and Lily James, who previously co-starred in Danny Boyle’s 2019 Beatles alternate history rom-com, Yesterday. In that film, Patel portrayed a struggling musician who, after a bus accident, awakens to a world where The Beatles never existed.

Meanwhile, Joseph Gordon-Levitt returns to comedic roles after taking a two-year break between 2018 and 2020 to focus on his family. Recently, he has starred in dramas such as Super Pumped in 2023. The film is directed by Potsy Ponciroli from a script by Mike Vukadinovich. The film also features Uzo Aduba, Nina Arianda, and Jim Gaffigan in co-starring roles.
Greedy People will hit theaters in the US on August 23, distributed by Lionsgate. Signature Entertainment has acquired the dark comedy for UK distribution, with reports indicating it will premiere on digital platforms in September.
