According to a Deadline report, Lionsgate is expanding the John Wick universe with a new action series titled John Wick: Under The High Table. This series, set immediately after John Wick: Chapter 4, will delve into the aftermath of John Wick’s actions, introducing a mix of new and familiar characters. The show is written by Robert Levine and promises to explore the mysterious High Table, the secretive governing body of assassins.
Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski, the star and director of the film franchise, are on board as executive producers, with Stahelski directing the pilot episode. While there’s no confirmation on whether Reeves will reprise his iconic role on screen, he is heavily involved behind the scenes to ensure the series stays true to the John Wick vibe that fans love.
The description of John Wick: The High Table, promises to “combine new and old and thrust the Wick universe into a new age.” This approach mirrors the strategy Lionsgate used in the John Wick prequel limited series The Continental: From the World of John Wick which was release last year in 2023.
The Continental is a spin-off set in the 1970s and led by Mel Gibson. The prequel focuses on Winston Scott (Colin Woodell) and his acquisition of The Continental, a notorious chain of hotels that serve as a neutral haven for assassins.
John Wick: Under The High Table will continue the story following the events of John Wick: Chapter 4. In the film, John and fellow assassin Caine earn their freedom from the High Table, while Winston is reinstated as the Hotel Manager of the rebuilt New York Continental after John kills the High Table’s Marquis but is left gravely injured. The ending is ambiguous, with John presumed—but not confirmed—dead.
We’ll keep you updated on any further developments with this newly announced spin-off. Additionally, keep an eye out for the upcoming spin-off film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, which is set between the events of the third and fourth John Wick movies.
