‘Greyhound’ Sequel on the Horizon as Tom Hanks Returns to Lead WWII Drama

Tom Hanks’ WWII epic greyhound to set sail again!

Tom Hanks is gearing up for another uncompromising mission on the high seas. The long-awaited sequel to Greyhound will officially begin filming in January 2026, setting up shop in Sydney, Australia. Hanks, who wrote and starred in the original WWII drama, returns as Captain Krause and has once again penned the script. Director Aaron Schneider and producer Gary Goetzman are also back onboard, keeping the creative team intact.

As reported by Deadline, this time, Greyhound will expand its battlefield. The new story will track Krause and his crew from the stormy beaches of Normandy to the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, covering critical moments that helped swing the war in favor of the Allies. Negotiations are underway to bring back key cast members from the first film, including Stephen Graham, whose star has only risen after standout work in Netflix’s Adolescence. While deals aren’t yet finalized, expectations are high that much of the original crew will reunite.

Released in 2020, Greyhound was a major win for Apple TV+, quickly becoming one of the platform’s biggest hits and even snagging an Oscar nomination for Best Sound. Set during the Battle of the Atlantic, the film captured the tense cat-and-mouse game between Allied ships and German U-boats in the treacherous mid-Atlantic “Black Pit.”

The sequel promises to broaden its scope, touching on the historic D-Day landings and shifting gears to the Pacific theater. If all goes to plan, audiences can expect bigger battles and even more of the intense naval action that defined the first film. This expanded view of WWII will also offer a fresh naval perspective on the Normandy invasion, a chapter famously explored by Hanks and Steven Spielberg in Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers.

Given the success of recent theatrical releases from Apple, there’s hope that Greyhound 2 could also hit cinemas before landing on streaming — a fitting move for a film that thrives on immersive sound and grand-scale spectacle.

With Hanks steering the ship once again, it looks like Greyhound‘s second voyage could be even more thrilling than the first. But for now, you can catch Greyhound’s first mission streaming on Apple TV+.
