Jackie Chan has provided a promising and characteristically energetic update on the long-rumored Rush Hour 4. Speaking at the Karate Kid: Legends red carpet event, the martial arts icon confirmed that development is still in progress, and made it clear he’s eager to return alongside longtime co-star Chris Tucker.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Chan shared a candid status report: “I don’t know. Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour.”

Though Rush Hour 4 has been lingering in development limbo for years, both stars have remained supportive of the idea. Chan previously denied involvement back in 2019, but confirmed in 2022 that talks were ongoing. Now, it seems the film still has no director or finalized script but it does have Chan’s full commitment. “Yes! And I want to do [another] Shanghai Knights, Shanghai Dawn… The script is still going on. I want to do a Rush Hour 4,” he added.
The original Rush Hour debuted in 1998, pairing Chan’s Hong Kong Inspector Lee with Tucker’s fast-talking LAPD Detective Carter. Directed by Brett Ratner, the film spawned two sequels and solidified the pair’s reputation as one of the most beloved buddy-cop duos in cinema. However, Ratner has not directed a film since 2014 and exited the industry after facing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct in 2018. His return to the franchise appears unlikely.

While Chan’s remarks express clear enthusiasm, they also underline the film’s precarious status. There’s no word yet on a replacement director, no production timeline, and no confirmed studio greenlight. Lionsgate was previously rumored to be involved, but no official announcements have followed.
Still, Chan’s update will be welcome news to fans of the action-comedy franchise. His sense of urgency may even light a fire under the stalled project — provided Hollywood’s decision-makers are paying attention. Until then, the future of Rush Hour 4 hangs in the balance.
