After a long spell of radio silence, Sony Pictures has finally lifted the curtain, just slightly on Kogonada’s next film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. A brief 10-second teaser has been released ahead of the film’s official trailer, expected to drop next week. That’s the first substantial look at the mysterious project since its release was quietly bumped from May to September 19 earlier this year.
Described as a romantic fantasy with speculative twists, the movie stars Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell as strangers brought together at a wedding. Their unexpected connection leads to an expansive journey, one that could involve bending time itself. While plot specifics are still tightly under wraps, the teaser is enough to hint at the film’s emotionally rich and visually stylized tone.

Kogonada, known for his thoughtful visual storytelling in Columbus and After Yang, directs from a screenplay by Seth Reiss. Reiss, whose past work spans comedy and drama, also steps in as one of the film’s producers alongside Dan Friedkin, Youree Henley, Bradley Thomas, Ryan Friedkin, and Gino Falsetto.
The cast is as striking as the concept. Joining Robbie and Farrell are Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Billy Magnussen, and Hamish Linklater. With a lineup this strong and a director with a knack for pairing emotional resonance with aesthetic precision, expectations are soaring.

Still, Sony’s near-silence until now has puzzled many. There’s been little buzz, no festival rumors, and barely a whisper of marketing — until now. But sometimes, a quiet approach is just the calm before the storm. With Kogonada’s track record and a cast of heavy hitters, this film could be one of 2025’s major surprises.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey Journey opens in theaters on September 19 via Sony Pictures. And if the teaser’s anything to go by, the full trailer might just be the moment this film finally hits the mainstream radar.
