M. Night Shyamalan’s Supernatural Romance ‘Remain’ Starts Production Starring Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal Leads M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Remain’.

Production has officially kicked off on M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film Remain, with cameras rolling this week in Rhode Island. The director confirmed the news directly, posting on X (Twitter), “Day 1. Film started rolling! Feeling very very grateful.”

The shoot began Wednesday inside The Coffee Depot on Main Street in Warren, where the location was transformed for the day. Additional scenes were filmed later that day in Bristol, with more locations scheduled across Warren and private properties through early July. Local production is being managed by Two Beacons Productions, with the Cranston Street Armory in Providence also serving as a key site.

Set for release on October 23, 2026, Remain is a supernatural romance thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Phoebe Dynevor, and Ashley Walters. The film is a collaboration between Shyamalan and bestselling author Nicholas Sparks, who independently crafted a novel version of the same story, scheduled to publish October 7, 2025.

Remain follows Tate Donovan (Gyllenhaal), a New York architect seeking a reset in Cape Cod following a mental health crisis and the death of his sister. There, he meets Wren (Dynevor), a woman whose presence forces him to question everything he thought was real. The story blends emotional trauma, ghostly visions, and a love story that may not end the way most do.

The project is produced by Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan via Blinding Edge Pictures, alongside Sparks’ producing partner Theresa Park and Marc Bienstock. Sparks also serves as executive producer.

The release calendar could get crowded. Jordan Peele’s next project is currently slated for the same date. If both stick to October 23, 2026, audiences may be in for one intense weekend at the movies.
