With M3GAN 2 already announced, we’ll be seeing the dancing droid doll at least one more time. M3GAN became an internet sensation thanks to its trailers alone, and following its impressive box office success, the creative teams at Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are now preparing for the sequel, tentatively titled M3GAN 2.0.
What you may not have expected is for the M3GAN universe to expand into an erotic thriller, but that’s exactly what’s being cooked up at Blumhouse. Deadline reports that Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are actively developing SOULM8TE, a 90s-style erotic thriller spin-off directed by Kate Dolan.
In SOULM8TE, a grieving man acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. His efforts to create a truly sentient companion backfire, transforming the once harmless lovebot into a dangerous and deadly soulmate.
“Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness,” Dolan explains to Deadline. “Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.”
James Wan and Jason Blum are set to produce SOULM8TE. The project will also see Michael Clear and Judson Scott from Wan’s Atomic Monster banner serving as executive producers, alongside Ingrid Bisu. Alayna Glasthal is the executive overseeing the project for Atomic Monster.
M3GAN was a surprise hit in January 2023, grossing over $181 million worldwide. Its sequel, M3GAN 2.0, is set to hit theaters on June 27, 2025, with Allison Williams and Violet McGraw reprising their roles. SOULM8TE is due to hit theaters on Friday, January 2, 2026.
We’ll keep you updated with any further developments on both movies.
