Mahershala Ali’s ‘Blade’ Movie Looks Dead in the Water

Blade Movie Drained of Life: What Went Wrong?

The long-anticipated new Blade movie seems to have finally been drained of all its lifeblood. After years of delays and setbacks, the film which was poised to introduce Mahershala Ali as the iconic Daywalker appears to have hit its final roadblock. The once-promising project has gone from excitement to uncertainty, with little hope of returning to the screen anytime soon.

Flying Lotus, an artist originally signed on to write music for the film, all but confirmed the unfortunate news this week. “I guess we are so far from it even being a possibility now but… Yeah, I was signed on to write music for the new BLADE movie before it fell thru,” he posted on X/Twitter. “Maybe it’ll come around again, but I doubt it. Would have been fun tho.” This revelation adds to the growing list of issues that have plagued the film, further dimming hopes of seeing Ali’s take on Blade anytime soon.

Delroy Lindo, who was initially set to appear in the reboot, shared his own disappointing experience. He described how the project started with great promise, but quickly derailed. Telling EW “When Marvel came to me, they seemed to be really interested in my input,” Lindo explained. “It was really exciting conceptually… but it just went off the rails.” His words reflect the many false starts the movie has encountered, leaving fans with nothing but empty promises.

Despite all the setbacks, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige remains optimistic about the future of Blade. He during an interview with Omelete in November 2024. “We are committed to Blade. We love the character, we love Mahershala’s take on him,” Feige assured in a recent statement. “Rest assured, the character will indeed make it to the MCU.” However, with multiple directors cycling through the project and a release date nowhere in sight, it’s hard to see when or how Blade will eventually make its debut.

The movie, first teased at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, was initially set to release in November 2024. But after countless changes behind the scenes, including director swaps and production delays, Blade was removed from Marvel’s release schedule in October 2024. Although Feige continues to promise the character’s eventual arrival, fans are left wondering if the film will ever rise from the ashes.

With setbacks mounting, it’s unclear whether Blade will ever make it to theaters or if Ali’s portrayal of the vampire hunter will be consigned to the history books as a missed opportunity. Whatever the outcome, it’s clear that this movie’s journey has been anything but smooth.
