Meet the New Harry, Ron, and Hermione in HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Reboot

HBO names the new trio for decade-long TV adaptation!

The next chapter of the Wizarding World has its stars. HBO has revealed the new faces of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger for its upcoming television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s iconic book series. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout will step into the legendary roles first brought to life by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint more than two decades ago.

After months of global auditions, casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann have selected three fresh talents to carry the weight of one of pop culture’s most beloved franchises. “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” said showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod in a joint statement. “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

The trio of newcomers will be joined by a lineup of established actors taking on key roles within the halls of Hogwarts. Jonathan Lithgow has been cast as Albus Dumbledore, with Nick Frost playing Hagrid. Paapa Essiedu takes on the enigmatic role of Severus Snape, while Janet McTeer will portray Professor McGonagall. Additional casting includes Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. Other pivotal roles — including Voldemort, Draco Malfoy, and the rest of the Weasley family — remain under wraps.

The series, which HBO describes as “a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books,” is planned to span ten years, with each season dedicated to a single novel. It marks HBO’s most significant fantasy project since Game of Thrones, and expectations are sky-high. The project is being developed in collaboration with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman among the executive producers.

Filming is scheduled to start this summer, with the series expected to premiere in 2026. With a major franchise on the line and an entire generation watching, the pressure to deliver is real.
