Joseph Kosinski is once again pushing the limits of what’s possible on screen — this time trading fighter jets for Formula 1 cars. His upcoming film, currently in production, stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris and dives deep into the world of elite motorsport. Simply titled F1, the film is a collaboration between Apple Original Films and Warner Bros., and it promises a fast, visceral, and unfiltered look at life behind the wheel of the world’s most dangerous racing machines.
The new behind-the-scenes teaser showcases the real-life intensity that Kosinski is known for. “You just can’t fake the speed and action of Formula One,” the director explains in the footage, highlighting the production’s commitment to authenticity. And he means it. Pitt and Idris are not just passengers in this project — they’re in the cars, pushing them to incredible speeds on real circuits, shot during live F1 race weekends.
Pitt, who plays veteran driver Sonny Hayes, seems completely at home in the adrenaline-fueled environment. “It’s so much fun,” he says in the teaser. Idris portrays Joshua Pearce, a rising star in the sport, as the two characters form a dynamic that’s likely to anchor both the action and emotion of the film.
The production team has gone to extraordinary lengths to replicate the F1 experience. The cars used are built on Formula 2 chassis, modified with authentic F1 wings and assisted by Mercedes engineers to closely match current-generation vehicles. From custom-built garages filled with functioning telemetry systems to pit crews made up of real technicians, the line between film set and race team has been deliberately blurred.

Filming has taken place at several Grands Prix, with the fictional APXGP team even making appearances on the real grid prior to races. Despite early rumors, Pitt did not lead the formation lap into turn one — but the sight of a Hollywood A-lister lining up alongside real drivers certainly turned heads.
Alongside Pitt and Idris, the film features a strong supporting cast including Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem. With F1, Kosinski appears to be crafting more than just a thrill ride — he’s aiming for a story about redemption, legacy, and raw human ambition.
