The 1996 disaster film Twister, stormed the box office, taking in nearly $500 million, the story follows storm chasers led by Jo (Helen Hunt) and Bill Harding (Bill Paxton) as they pursue tornadoes across the Midwest.
So it’s surprising that it’s taken nearly thirty years to get a sequel, but Twisters will arrive this summer, starring Glen Powell as a ‘tornado wrangler’ and Daisy Edgar-Jones as a scientist, the film is a ‘stand-alone’ sequel to the 1996 box office hit.
The new trailer provides an even closer look at the torments awaiting the storm chasers as Powell and Edgar-Jones encounter not one, but two tornadoes. These twisters merge into a single, terrifying, and destructive mega-storm, described as a once-in-a-generation outbreak.
Daisy Edgar-Jones plays scientist Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser who now studies storms from a lab in New York after experiencing a tragic encounter with a twister. She is coaxed back into the field by her friend and colleague Javi (Anthony Ramos), who has developed a groundbreaking tracking system that needs to be tested.
While in the field, they encounter Tyler Owens, a social media star and storm chaser played by Glen Powell, who is everywhere at the moment he’s currently enjoying a string of hits. While on the road, the chasers encounter a phenomena never seen before as multiple storm systems converge over central Oklahoma.
Alongside Edgar-Jones & Powell the film also stars, Kiernan Shipka, David Corenswet, Sasha Lane, Maura Tierney, Katy O’Brian, Brandon Perea, Harry Hadden-Paton, Daryl McCormack, Nik Dodani and Tunde Adebimpe.
Lee Isaac Chung directs a script from Mark L. Smith and Steven Spielberg is attached as executive producer.
Twisters will be in cinemas worldwide July 19.
