Channing Tatum is at the center of one of the most bizarre true crime stories ever put to screen. The first trailer for Roofman, directed by Derek Cianfrance, has arrived via Paramount and Miramax. The film dramatizes the story of Jeffrey Manchester, a former Army Ranger who became infamous for his unconventional method of robbing McDonald’s restaurants…by cutting holes in their roofs.
The official synopsis, released by the studios, outlines a tale that seems too wild to be real. “Based on an unbelievable true story, Roofman follows Jeffrey Manchester, a former Army Ranger and struggling father who turns to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname: Roofman.” After a prison break, Manchester manages to live undetected for months inside a Toys “R” Us, plotting his next move while trying to outrun his past.

Tatum leads a packed cast that includes Kirsten Dunst, Peter Dinklage, LaKeith Stanfield, Ben Mendelsohn and Juno Temple. Dunst plays Leigh, a single mother who captures Manchester’s heart, adding an emotional wrinkle to the film’s high-stakes cat-and-mouse tension. “But when he falls for Leigh (Kirsten Dunst), a divorced mom drawn to his undeniable charm, his double life begins to unravel, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as his past closes in,” reads the official synopsis.
Roofman was directed by Cianfrance and co-written with Kirt Gunn. Speaking about the project in the film’s announcement, the filmmakers highlight the emotional weight behind the crime caper. The production lineup includes Lynette Howell Taylor, Jamie Patricof, Duncan Montgomery, and Dylan Sellers. Tatum, Cianfrance, and Jonathan Montepare are listed among the executive producers.

Roofman looks a curious cocktail of suspense, offbeat comedy, and poignant drama. One man’s hideout inside a toy store might just become one of the year’s most unexpected settings for heartbreak and humanity.
Tatum’s next big-screen appearance will be in Avengers: Doomsday, where he reprises his role as Gambit. But first, he’s got rooftops to climb and secrets to keep. You can watch the trailer for Roofman below. The film lands in theaters October 10, 2025.
