Netflix, who have recently concluded their royal drama The Crown, will delve into another royal subject with their upcoming drama, Scoop.
Starring Gillian Anderson as Emily Maitlis, whose notorious grilling of Prince Andrew (Rufus Sewell) resulted in worldwide headlines, humiliation, and embarrassment for the prince, who has since settled sexual abuse allegations as part of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

Anderson expressed how “Scary” it was to play the BBC Newsnight journalist saying in an interview with the BBC saying “It was just too scary to play Emily Maitlis, because she’s still living, because she’s so formidable, because people know her so well.”
The film recounts the infamous Newsnight interview, in which the disgraced prince was humiliated over his connections to Jeffrey Epstein and his past conduct. The unforgettable interview spawned jokes about Pizza Express and his alleged inability to sweat.
The official synopsis for the film reads as follows: “Inspired by real events, Scoop is the inside account of the tenacious journalism that landed an earthshattering interview – Prince Andrew’s infamous BBC Newsnight appearance. From the tension of producer Sam McAlister’s high stakes negotiations with Buckingham Palace, all the way to Emily Maitlis’ jaw dropping, forensic showdown with the Prince, Scoop takes us inside the story, with the women who would stop at nothing to get it. To get an interview this big, you have to be bold.”

Alongside Anderson and Sewell, the cast also includes Billie Piper, who plays Sam McAlister, the producer who secured the interview, as well as Keeley Hawes, Connor Swindells, and Romola Garai.
The film is directed by Philip Martin and based on the book Scoops: Behind The Scenes Of The BBC’s Most Shocking Interview by Sam McAlister.
Scoop will be on Netflix worldwide April 5.
