Neve Campbell is officially back in Scream 7, and this time, her character Sidney Prescott won’t just be making a cameo—she’ll be at the heart of the story. Kevin Williamson, who returns to the franchise as director for the first time, confirmed at the ATX TV Festival that Sidney will be the focus of the new installment.
“The company pitched it to me because they said, ‘This is going to be about Sidney Prescott. It needs to be about Sidney,’” Williamson said during a conversation presented by Universal Studio Group. “That’s why I would want to do it. I do think there’s a world we haven’t tapped into, we’ve never gone home with her, who she is today, and we don’t know what her life is about. I want to know those things.”

The film is expected to explore Sidney’s present-day life which is now far removed from the halls of Woodsboro High and years of trauma. While the setting remains under wraps, casting details reveal Joel McHale as Sidney’s husband Mark, with Isabel May playing their daughter.
Adding intrigue, Scream 7 will also feature appearances from several legacy characters, including Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley, and David Arquette. Some of those names, Lillard’s Stu Macher and Foley’s Roman Bridger were killed off in earlier films, raising questions about how they’ll reappear.

Williamson also addressed Campbell’s previous absence from Scream VI. “There was this big thing about the pay discrepancy, but it was also about the part,” he said. “It was like, ‘You want me to show up at the end of a movie with a gun and help everyone shoot Ghostface? That’s great. I’ll do it.’ She was happy, but she’d also wanted a part. Actresses want to play parts.”
Now, Campbell has that part. Williamson worked closely with her to shape the story. “Working with Neve, we did it together. She was with me every step of the way, and she was so supportive and so helpful. She walked me through a lot of it. I hope it shows, but we had a blast.”
Scream 7 arrives in theaters on February 27, 2026.
