On Instagram, Wright reflected on how the film transformed his life and expressed his excitement for its upcoming re-release.

Twenty years ago, the worldwide release of ‘Shaun of the Dead’ changed my life forever. Its reception since then has continued to be incredible, largely due to the passionate fans who have championed it with cricket bats aloft. Now, as we celebrate its bloody 20th anniversary with a brand-new Dolby Atmos and Vision remastered version, I’m beyond excited for everyone to experience it once again on the big screen—the way it was always meant to be seen: large, loud, and with quite a lot of red on it.

Shaun of the Dead follows Shaun, a disheartened electronics store worker dealing with a recent breakup, whose ordinary life is thrown into chaos when a zombie apocalypse hits. As the world falls apart around him, Shaun scrambles to save his ex-girlfriend, stepfather, and mom, all while trying to keep some sense of normalcy, “let’s go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over.”

Shaun of the Dead made its debut in 2004 and rapidly established itself as a cultural sensation, securing a permanent spot in the realm of horror-comedy. Directed by Edgar Wright and co-written by Wright and Simon Pegg, who also stars with Nick Frost, the film has since garnered a devoted fan base.

Shaun of the Dead will hit U.S. cinemas on August 29, followed by its re-release in UK cinemas on September 27.
