Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is proving to be a box office powerhouse, surpassing expectations and quickly earning a spot among the most successful vampire films in domestic history. With an opening weekend that blew past projections, the film has now climbed into the top 15 highest-grossing vampire movies in North America already ahead of every entry in the Underworld series and now eyeing bigger targets.
At the domestic box office, Sinners has earned $64 million so far, with an additional $15 million rolling in from international markets. That puts the global total just past the $80 million mark. Based on its current momentum, the film is expected to cross the $100 million threshold by the weekend. It’s already passed The Purge, The Invisible Man, and the Friday the 13th reboot on the list of top horror earners and could overtake last year’s viral hit Longlegs in the coming days.

In terms of vampire film rankings, Sinners is poised to eclipse Morbius next. It’s already leapfrogged over cult classics like The Lost Boys and 30 Days of Night, and even left all five Underworld films in the dust — at least domestically. The next major milestone? Outperforming the Blade trilogy. While it hasn’t reached those numbers yet, Sinners is on track to surpass them soon, with Blade II holding the current domestic lead at around $82 million.
Part of what’s fueling the buzz is the movie’s originality and scale. Coogler, directing a script he co-wrote, brings a high-concept, high-style edge to the vampire genre. Starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, the cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo and Jack O’Connell. With a production budget reported to be over $90 million, it’s a big swing — and it’s paying off.

Critically, the film has been a hit as well. Sinners boasts a rare 98% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 97% audience score. CinemaScore audiences gave it an A — an exceptional mark, especially for a horror film. We at Screen Vice awarded the film a four-star review, calling it “bold and memorable.” You can read our review here.
With audiences packing into theaters and word-of-mouth continuing to grow, Sinners has become one of the breakout hits of the year a rare example of an original story competing with franchise-heavy summer fare. Whether it climbs all the way into the top tier of vampire cinema alongside the Twilight saga remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the genre has a new modern classic.
