The wait is nearly over for Slow Horses fans, as season four is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, September 4th. The new season promises to bring back familiar faces from Slough House, while also introducing intriguing new characters that will shake up the dynamic of the team.
One of those new additions to the cast is Ruth Bradley, who takes on the role of Emma Flyte, MI5’s new head of security. Bradley joins an ensemble led by Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the sharp-witted but gruff leader of a team of misfit spies relegated to the unorthodox MI5 division known as Slough House. The show, which has earned acclaim for its darkly comedic take on espionage, will once again delve into the murky world of intelligence.
Ruth Bradley, speaking to Virgin Radio, offered some insights into what viewers can expect from the new season. She described season four as being “darker” and “more personal,” with a deeper exploration of the characters’ backstories. “There’s so much going on,” Bradley said, promising that the new episodes will reveal more about the lives and psychology of the Slough House operatives.
There’s so much going on. In fact, I think there’s probably the most going on in this season. It definitely is darker than the previous seasons, and it’s a bit more personal. We find out a bit more about the characters’ backstories, and, yeah, it’s a deeper dive into the psychology of some of the horses.

When asked if her character would be involved in the action scenes that Slow Horses is known for, Bradley teased that Emma Flyte is far from a passive observer. “She kind of gets her hands in all the pies in this season. So I did get to do some stunts, which was pretty new for me,” the actress revealed, suggesting that her character will play a significant role in the unfolding drama.
The season 4 trailer sees London shaken by a devastating explosion at a shopping center, sending shockwaves through the already precarious world of Slough House. This MI5 division is where agents who have fallen out of favor or made significant errors are relegated. The blast triggers a series of personal secrets coming to light, adding to the turmoil within the team. Meanwhile, River Cartwright (Lowden) faces his own challenges as he contends with his grandfather David’s (Jonathan Pryce) declining mental health.
Alongside Ruth Bradley Season 4 of Slow Horses introduces a remarkable new cast, featuring James Callis, Tom Brooke, Joanna Scanlan, and Hugo Weaving. Meanwhile, fans can look forward to even more, as filming for Season 5 has already been completed, ensuring that the gripping espionage drama will continue to unfold.
Since its debut in 2022, Slow Horses has garnered significant acclaim worldwide. The series’ third season has been particularly well-received, earning nine Emmy nominations, including nods for Outstanding Drama Series and several acting categories.
Slow Horses will return this week to Apple TV+ on September 4th with the premiere of its eagerly awaited fourth season. New episodes will be released weekly following the debut.
