The film continues the eerie narrative from the original surprise hit Smile, where a supernatural parasitic curse drives people to madness and ultimately to take their own lives while smiling, in a bid to transfer the malevolent entity to someone else.
In this sequel, Naomi Scott stars as Skye Riley, an international pop sensation who becomes the latest target of the sinister force while on a major tour. The trailer intensifies the horror as Skye is tormented by the grinning specter of the ‘Smile’ demon. Among the unsettling scenes, Lukas Gage’s character is shown in a harrowing moment where he forcibly puts a smile on her face.
The trailer reveals a harrowing descent into madness for Skye as she encounters increasingly unsettling events and a growing number of sinister, smiling faces. Amidst the chaos, a researcher who studies the curse reaches out with a chilling message: Skye must die to break the curse. Following this grim revelation, the trailer shows Skye in a hospital gown, poised to inject herself with an unknown substance.
Initially slated for a streaming release on Paramount+, Smile was instead released in theaters in September 2022 after receiving overwhelmingly positive test screenings. The film quickly became one of the highest-grossing horror movies of the year, raking in over $217 million worldwide. It tells the chilling tale of a relentless demon that drives its victims to suicide by appearing as various human figures with disturbingly sinister smiles.
Smile 2 will look to propel Parker Finn’s franchise to even greater success. The official synopsis reads: About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.
Smile 2 is written and directed by Parker Finn and will be released in theaters October 18.
