The hook is back and it’s got a whole new set of victims. Sony has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming slasher sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer, which returns to theaters on July 18. This time, the bloody legacy of Southport resurfaces through a fresh generation of unlucky twenty-somethings, with some very familiar faces stepping back into the chaos.
Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson, the original survivors of the 1997 hit. And yes, the trailer delivers a shot of pure nostalgia when Hewitt belts out her iconic scream: “What are you waiting for?!”

The story follows a group of five friends whose split-second decision after a tragic accident leads to a secret pact and a year later, to a relentless stalker bent on retribution. As the blood starts spilling, the survivors begin to suspect this isn’t the first time history has repeated itself.
Joining the cast are Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, and Sarah Pidgeon. Facing an all-too-familiar threat, they eventually turn to Ray and Julie for help, the only two who’ve faced this nightmare and lived to talk about it.

The film is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, co-writing the script with Sam Lansky. The story is credited to Robinson and Leah McKendrick. When asked whether Brandy would reprise her role as Karla, Robinson told Entertainment Weekly, “You’ll have to go see the movie.”
Also returning is original producer Neal H. Moritz. The production team includes Jackie Shenoo and Karina Rahardja, known for work on Red Rocket, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Escape Room.
Get ready to run — or don’t, because it never helps. I Know What You Did Last Summer opens July 18, and judging by the trailer, the killer hasn’t lost his edge… or his hook.
