After nearly a decade of monsters, friendships, and ’80s nostalgia, Stranger Things is gearing up to say goodbye. Netflix’s sci-fi juggernaut, which launched in 2016 and became a global sensation, is entering its final chapter. And according to cast member Noah Schnapp, fans should brace themselves. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the Broadway premiere of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the actor shared a sobering preview of what’s to come: “People are going to be truly devastated.”
Though he didn’t give much away in terms of plot, Schnapp added that while it will be emotional, there’s still a lot for audiences to enjoy. “As sad as it was, I’m so excited to see the world’s reaction to watching the finale because there’s not going to be a dry eye, it’s going to be sad. Not to be so negative, it is a really great season and people will love it,” he said.

As the streaming giant prepares to close the door on Hawkins, fans are eager for clues about what’s in store. Series co-creator Ross Duffer has called the final season “our fastest start we’ve ever had,” promising that the characters leap into action from the first episode. He described the tone as both thrilling and deeply personal: “It’s the end of a long journey, for everyone who made the show and also for those characters… hopefully, it’s our most emotional season yet.”
The creators remain tight-lipped about plot specifics, hoping to keep key moments under wraps until the season drops. Filming is already complete, and the Duffer brothers are deep in post-production. Speaking to Collider, they revealed, “We’re focused on visual effects sequences right now… we’re actually ahead of schedule which is rare for us, so that’s great.”

As for how the episodes will be released, nothing is set in stone. A split rollout is rumored but not confirmed. In a recent conversation with Variety, the Duffer brothers explained, “A lot of it hasn’t been decided, in terms of exactly the release dates and cadence. That’s one reason I’m not allowed to talk about it. We’re getting on a call in about a couple weeks about it. I just know it was very important for us and Netflix that we get it out this year.”
No date has been locked in yet, but one thing is certain: Stranger Things won’t be going out quietly. Expect emotional punches, heartbreak, and one last journey into the Upside Down.
