The world’s most curious teenage sleuth is back on the case. Netflix has officially kicked off production on Enola Holmes 3, the latest installment in the hit mystery franchise starring Millie Bobby Brown. Following the success of the first two films, which turned Nancy Springer’s novels into global streaming sensations, the new adventure reunites fan-favorite characters and introduces a fresh creative team behind the camera.
This time around, the story gets an extra twist with the pairing of director Philip Barantini and screenwriter Jack Thorne — the dynamic duo behind Adolescence. Their unexpected involvement brings a more mature edge to the youthful franchise. Fans got a glimpse behind the scenes as Brown and co-star Louis Partridge shared a slick on-set tracking shot straight from the UK shoot.
The official synopsis teases high drama and danger on foreign shores: “Adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where personal and professional dreams collide in a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before.” Romance and riddles appear to go hand-in-hand as Enola’s budding relationship with Tewkesbury — played once again by Partridge — continues to evolve following their climactic kiss in the previous chapter.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an Enola Holmes outing without the familiar faces of her famous family. Henry Cavill is back as the ever-logical Sherlock Holmes, joined by Himesh Patel as the steady Dr. Watson. Helena Bonham Carter reprises her role as the unconventional matriarch Eudoria, and fans of the franchise’s criminally brilliant antagonist will be pleased to hear that Sharon Duncan-Brewster returns as Moriarty, under her alias Mira Troy.
While a release date remains under wraps, Netflix is undoubtedly aiming to build on the franchise’s momentum. The first Enola Holmes cracked the platform’s top 10 in over 90 countries. The sequel followed suit with similarly strong numbers, cementing the series as one of Netflix’s most dependable hits. With Malta as a fresh backdrop, expectations for round three are climbing.
As filming continues, all eyes will be on how Barantini and Thorne reshape Enola’s world, moving her story forward with the kind of grit, wit, and heart that audiences have come to expect.
