‘The Penguin’ Trailer Colin Farrell’s Batman Villain Is Back

Matt Reeves’ Batman saga continues!

Colin Farrell will make his return to Gotham City as Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a Penguin in MAX’s upcoming series The Penguin. Last week, Matt Reeves‘ Batman saga encountered a setback when it was announced that The Batman Part Two would be delayed by an entire year. However, fans can still look forward to experiencing Reeves’ vision of Gotham City this year with the debut of The Penguin, slated for later in 2024.

The Penguin picks up immediately after the events of DC’s 2022 blockbuster The Batman, following Cobblepot’s ascent to power in the Gotham underworld as he solidifies his position as one of the most influential villains in the Batman universe.

Farrell’s transformative portrayal of the iconic villain in The Batman garnered widespread critical acclaim, with the prosthetics rendering the actor virtually unrecognizable. Now, Farrell’s Cobblepot, once a lieutenant to the late crime boss Carmine Falcone, steps up to assume leadership of Gotham’s criminal underworld. As the short teaser sees him deliver a classic gangster monologue.

The series is from DC Studios, the Warner Bros. division overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Both The Batman and The Penguin are regarded as separate from the wider DCU plans, existing within their own universe under the Elseworlds banner—a homage to alternate universe stories in DC Comics.

Joining Farrell in the cast are Cristin Milioti, portraying Carmine Falcone’s daughter, Sofia; Michael Zegen, playing Carmine’s son, Alberto; and Clancy Brown, who takes on the role of Salvatore Maroni, one of Gotham’s former top gangsters.

Matt Reeves is onboard as a producer, while Lauren LeFranc serves as the showrunner, and Craig Zobel takes the helm as the lead director.

There’s no official release date for The Penguin yet, but audiences can anticipate its arrival later in 2024.
