As we gear up for June’s highly anticipated second season of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, HBO is daring us to pick a side with the release of TWO trailers. As the escalating civil war brewing among the Targaryen family and their wider bloodline takes center stage.
The series is set two centuries before the events of the iconic series Game of Thrones, within the fictional world of Westeros. It delves into the history of House Targaryen, a family renowned for their dragons, distinctive silver hair, and their role in forging the Iron Throne.
Season One see Alicent’s son, Aegon Targaryen, finds himself reluctantly thrust into the role of King. Alicent firmly believes this was the dying wish of her husband, King Viserys, played by Paddy Considine. Unbeknownst to her, Viserys was actually attempting to forewarn her about the impending conflict with the White Walkers. Consequently, his firstborn daughter, Rhaenyra, is furious at being usurped to the throne.
Following the season one finale, which witnessed significant bloodshed, season two will see Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke’s Alicent Hightower fully immersed in their power struggle, going all-out in their fight for dominance.

Alongside D’Arcy and Cooke the returning cast includes Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Ewan Mitchell as Prince Aemond Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys ‘The Sea Snake’ and Tom Glynn-Carney as King Aegon II Targaryen.
House of the Dragon is based on Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel and will come to our screens June 16.
