The Russo Brothers Reveal the First BTS Look at ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ (It’s a Chair…Again)

Victor von Doom takes a seat as ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ starts production!

The Russo Brothers have officially kicked off filming on Avengers: Doomsday and to mark the occasion, they dropped a thrilling first look at the production. And by thrilling, I mean they’ve gone with a photo of a directors chair…once again. This time emblazoned with “Victor Von Doom.” Riveting stuff.

The Instagram caption simply read “Day one…” confirming that Robert Downey Jr. is stepping into the villainous shoes of Doctor Doom for his big Marvel comeback. Six years after Tony Stark’s heroic exit in Avengers: Endgame, Downey is ready to swap suits this time for a mask and a whole lot of bad intentions. Filming is underway in London, and the hype machine is just getting started, whether or not the marketing team remembered to bring a second prop.

Marvel, of course, is playing it close to the chest. The ensemble cast already stacked with the likes of Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and newcomers from Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four—was unveiled during a five-hour livestream that also, amusingly, centered around… more chairs. Somewhere, a furniture showroom is owed a serious thank you.

Kevin Feige teased that even more casting surprises are on the way, while David Harbour confessed he had no idea who else was even involved. “I was like, ‘What, he’s in this movie? Wow,'” Harbour admitted to GamesRadar, proving that Marvel’s secrecy extends to its own actors.

Originally slated as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the film was rebranded after Marvel dropped Jonathan Majors and shifted the narrative toward Doom. The new direction seems to promise a fresh villain at the center of the Multiverse Saga. Whether Iron Man shows up alongside Doom, however, remains firmly in the rumor pile.

Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters May 1, 2026. With cameras finally rolling and Downey already suited (or at least seated), fans can start looking forward to more reveals hopefully something more substantial next time than a moderately comfortable chair.
