Tom Hanks just dropped a five-finger bomb on Instagram and Toy Story fans are…buzzing. Holding up his hand mid-recording session, the Oscar winner gave the internet its first official taste of Toy Story 5, confirming that Woody is back in the saddle for Pixar’s latest adventure.
While Disney and Pixar are keeping the plot tightly under wraps, co-star Tim Allen has already stirred the pot with a few tantalizing crumbs. “It’s a lot about Jessie,” he told WIVB, hinting that the beloved cowgirl voiced by Joan Cusack will finally take center stage. Allen added, “Tom [Hanks] and I do — Woody and I — do realign,” before teasing, “And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyear. I can give you that, but I can’t give you much more.”

Behind the scenes, the all-star creative team is stacked. Andrew Stanton, the two-time Oscar-winning mastermind behind Finding Nemo and WALL-E, is writing and directing. Jessica Choi is producing, while longtime Pixar brain Pete Docter returns as executive producer, ensuring the emotional highs hit just as hard as the nostalgia.
Joining the voice cast is Scary Movie star Anna Faris in a still-secret role, adding even more curiosity to the mix. One heartfelt change: Ernie Hudson will step in to voice Combat Carl, a character originally brought to life by the late Carl Weathers. Hudson is taking up the mantle with Pixar’s blessing following Weathers’ passing in early 2024 at age 76.

Weathers, a beloved actor and former NFL player, voiced Combat Carl in both Toy Story of Terror! and Toy Story 4, which crushed the global box office with over $1 billion. Hudson has some big boots to fill but if anyone can bring the action figure’s energy back to life, it’s Winston Zeddemore himself.
With a June 2026 release date on the horizon, fans are officially counting down. If Hanks’ teaser photo is any sign, the toys are coming out of the box for one more ride.
