Warner Bros. have today released a series of clips for the highly anticipated Wonka movie starring Timothée Chalamet as a young version of the iconic chocolatier. Among the clips we see the Young Wonka trap Hugh Grant’s disgruntled Oompa-Loompa, watch below.
The film follows the journey of a young Willy Wonka who spends time travelling whilst perfecting his recipes which lead to him opening his world famous chocolate factory. The film is a prequel to Roald Dahl’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Wonka is directed by Paul King director of Paddington & he co-wrote the script with Simon Farnaby.
In an interview with Vogue, Chalamet has said that he was interested in playing Willy Wonka due to the fact that it would appeal to a younger audience, saying.
“To work on something that will have an uncynical young audience, that was just a big joy.” That’s why I was drawn to it. In a time and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there’s so much bad news all the time, this is hopefully going to be a piece of chocolate.”
Willy Wonka has been played by Gene Wilder in the 1971 movie and by Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s 2005 revision, now for the first time we will see an alternate version of Wonka come to the big screen.
Starring alongside Chalamet and Grant are Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Keegan-Michael Key, Matthew Baynton, Matt Lucas, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Natasha Rothwell, Simon Farnaby, Paterson Joseph, Tom Davis, Rakhee Thakrar, Justin Edwards, Colin O’Brien, Ellie White, Freya Parker and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
From the director of Paddington and the producers of Harry Potter, Wonka will be released in theaters December 15, 2023.
