The first trailer for the much-anticipated horror prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One, has arrived, offering a terrifying glimpse into how it all began as chaos erupts in New York City.
As the title suggests, the movie delves into the start of the invasion, portraying the arrival of deadly alien creatures with hyper-sonic hearing on Earth. We caught a brief glimpse of the aliens’ arrival in a flashback at the start of A Quiet Place Part II, but now, with this prequel, we’ll get a comprehensive look at how and why they arrived.
The first two films immerse us in a world of near-total silence, creating a highly charged atmosphere filled with fear and tension. Every small noise becomes a potential trigger for alien annihilation, making them highly effective horror-thrillers and they were brilliantly directed by John Krasinski.
The prequel spin-off will not feature the Abbott family but will instead introduce us to a whole new set of characters played by Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, and Alex Wolff. However, an interesting returning character from Part Two is Djimon Hounsou’s ‘Man on Island.‘ ‘Day One‘ will surely expand on his mysterious character.
Lupita Nyong’o plays Sam, a woman described as being on a day trip to New York City when chaos breaks out. Reluctantly, she pairs up with Joseph Quinn’s Eric, and together they do their best to survive as the city descends into chaos.
Speaking to EW, Nyong’o describes these two characters colliding, saying, “We have these disparate individuals who collide into each other’s lives, and it is at a very pivotal time for the world. How do they negotiate survival together? What we get is really interesting — and even surprising — chemistry in the characters that meet each other along the way.”
John Krasinski isn’t behind the camera this time; it’s directed by Michael Sarnoski. However, Krasinski has co-written the story alongside the director.
‘Day One’ will mark the third installment in the post-apocalyptic horror franchise, with a fourth film, A Quiet Place III, currently in the works. Despite some delays, Part III was initially expected to release in 2025. It will continue the story on the original timeline, and Krasinski is expected to return to direct.
But for now we don’t have much longer to wait A Quiet Place: Day One will be in cinemas June 28.
