Barry Keoghan is set to join the cast of Netflix’s highly anticipated Peaky Blinders movie, which is expected to hit screens next year. The film will be a spin-off of the hugely popular BBC series that ran for six seasons, from 2013 to 2022, and captivated audiences with its gritty portrayal of post-World War I Birmingham. The series starred Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy as the iconic Thomas Shelby, the ruthless leader of the Shelby crime family.
The news of Keoghan’s casting was first reported by Deadline earlier this morning (August 29.) While specific details about his role remain under wraps, his addition to the cast has already sparked excitement among fans of the series. Known for his standout performances in films like The Banshees of Inisherin, Keoghan is sure to bring something special to the Peaky Blinders universe.
In addition to Keoghan, it was recently reported that Dune star Rebecca Ferguson has also joined the cast. Her role, like Keoghan’s, is still a mystery, but her involvement adds even more star power to the project. Production on the film is slated to begin later this year.
This new Peaky Blinders film has been in the works for some time, with Netflix officially greenlighting the project in June. Although plot details for the film are being kept tightly under wraps, series creator Steven Knight has previously hinted that the story will be set during World War II.
Speaking to Deadline, Murphy expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the iconic role of Tommy Shelby in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie and how this one is for the fans.
It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.
