Warner Bros. has released the full trailer for the new horror thriller The Watchers. The film marks the directorial debut of Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of horror maestro M. Night Shyamalan. This year seems to be quite eventful for the Shyamalan family, with M. Night Shyamalan recently unveiling the trailer for his latest movie, Trap, just days ago.
The trailer for The Watchers carries a familial tone and atmosphere reminiscent of her father’s previous project, Knock at the Cabin. Ishana Night Shyamalan appears to be staying true to the family recipe when it comes to filmmaking.
The film follows Mina (Dakota Fanning), a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.
In the trailer, Fanning’s character, Mina, finds herself lost in the woods, suddenly Olwen Fouéré’s Madeline opens a mysterious door and tells her, “You have five seconds before the door is sealed.” As she counts down from five Mina runs for the door, inside and panicked, Mina’s fellow prisoners advise her that it’s unwise to keep ‘them’ waiting. She is then informed, “There’s a window on the other side. They come every night,” followed by the chilling revelation, “And they watch us.”
‘The Watchers may signify Ishana Night Shyamalan’s directorial debut, but the young filmmaker is no novice. She has previously directed episodes of the horror series ‘Servant’ and worked as a second unit director on her father’s film ‘Old’. True to the family style, her full feature debut looks just as terrifyingly eerie as her father’s body of work.
Alongside Fanning and Fouéré the cast includes, Georgina Campbell as Ciara, Charles Camrose as Conor, Oliver Finnegan as Daniel and Siobhan Hewlett as Mina’s Mother.
The Watchers is directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan and produced by M. Night Shyamalan. The film has experienced some juggling of its release date in recent months. Initially announced for release on June 7, it was later moved back a week to the 14th before ultimately being restored to its original date, so it will release on June 7.
