Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the favorite to be the next 007!

Bullet train director David Leitch is eager to tackle the James Bond franchise and direct the next film alongside his former colleague, Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Speculation has been mounting in recent weeks that Taylor-Johnson has been offered the role of Bond.

Most recently, Taylor-Johnson teamed up with Leitch on the action comedy The Fall Guy, set to release on May 2. While speaking with CinemaBlend, Leitch discussed Taylor-Johnson potentially assuming the role and praised him as an incredible athlete.

While he also expressed his own desire to direct Bond 26, saying, “He would be an amazing James Bond. I’ll just go on the record like, I’ve never gotten to do enough action with Aaron, which is crazy. We’ve done Bullet Train and now, we’ve done The Fall Guy. What I really want to do is an action movie with him, because he’s such an incredible athlete. Like Aaron is awesome. Yeah. So, maybe we’ll get that opportunity soon, and I’ll get to direct Bond.”

Although the producers of the Bond franchise have not yet made an official announcement regarding who will succeed Daniel Craig as 007, much speculation consistently points to Taylor-Johnson as the leading candidate.

According to insiders speaking to The Sun newspaper, there’s an expectation that the Kick-Ass star, will accept the role of 007, succeeding Daniel Craig, who has played MI6’s iconic spy for 15 years. The source said, “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back. As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”

Official confirmation regarding the rumors has not been provided, and Taylor-Johnson has been skillfully evading questions at various events. At the premiere of his latest film, The Fall Guy, when asked if he was ‘sick’ of being questioned about the Bond role, he humorously replied, “You sick of asking the question?”

Bond 26 experienced delays due to last year’s Hollywood strikes, but Eon Productions is scheduled to commence shooting later this year.
