First Look at ‘The Paper’ Peacock’s Office Spinoff Set for September

Can you spot the familiar face? He looks thrilled!

Peacock has finally, officially pulled back the curtain on The Paper, a new mockumentary series spun from the same universe as The Office. Set to premiere this September, the show was formally introduced during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation in New York, where a first-look image was also unveiled.

The Paper follows a familiar format but shifts its focus from paper sales to paper news. According to the official logline: “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it.” That’s right—the same offbeat crew is back behind the camera, just in a very different office.

The series takes place inside the Toledo Truth-Teller newsroom. During the trailer shown at the event, the documentary team pans across the office floor, and if you look closely it reveals Oscar (Oscar Nuñez) now working as an accountant for the newspaper. He doesn’t look thrilled to see the cameras again. Sabrina Impacciatore plays the managing editor, while Domhnall Gleeson steps in as an eager newcomer with lofty ideals.

Nuñez, returning to his role from the original Office series, joined Impacciatore and Gleeson onstage to introduce the show. While an exact release date hasn’t been confirmed, the September window puts the premiere just in time for fall’s comedy season. Expect uncomfortable pauses, awkward glances, and a fresh dose of workplace absurdity.

The show was co-created by The Office U.S. developer Greg Daniels. Executive producers also include Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant—the creators of the original U.K. version—along with Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas. Universal Television is behind the production.

The Paper was part of a broader slate of Peacock originals unveiled at the presentation, which also featured titles like the animated Ted series with Seth MacFarlane, a reboot of The Burbs starring Keke Palmer, and new comedies like Dig with Amy Poehler and the drama All Her Fault starring Sarah Snook.
