Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. We were given a first glimpse in December of Anya Taylor-Joy’s take on the role, now the second trailer kicks it up a gear as we she her kicking ass, with her character taking on a physical resemblance to Charlize Theron’s shaved-headed Furiosa from Fury Road.
The trailer introduces us to her as a girl (Alyla Browne) taken from the sanctuary of the lush verdant Green Place of Many Mothers. She finds herself thrust into the chaotic and desolate world ruled by Chris Hemsworth’s Warlord Dementus. Determined to seek revenge and reclaim her life and her mother, she embarks on her journey declaring “I want them back!”
The official synopsis for the film reads as follows:. “As the world falls, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and into the hands of a Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. While two Tyrants war for dominance over the Citadel, Furiosa survives many trials as she plots a way back home through the Wasteland.”
Furiosa was actually conceived before Fury Road was made, Miller wrote a script that predated Fury Road. But the project was held up for years due to legal battles between Miller and the studio over Fury Road profits.
The almost unrecognizable Chris Hemsworth has spoken on the brutality of his character saying, “He’s a complicated individual. He’s a very violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the Wasteland, which is the world the ‘Mad Max’ saga takes place in. He’s a product of his environment,” Hemsworth says of his character, Dementus. “He has been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed. He’s learned to rule with an iron fist. There’s a charisma to him and it’s a very manipulative charisma.”
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be in cinemas worldwide May 24.
