Disney has released the first teaser trailer for Moana 2, providing a glimpse into the upcoming animated adventure featuring Moana and Maui. The trailer sees Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho reprising their roles from the hit 2016 animated movie.
Moana 2 initially started development as a television series for Disney+ in 2020, but by February 2024 it was announced that the series had been reworked into a theatrical sequel.
The story revolves around the titular character embarking on a journey to distant lands, encountering unprecedented dangers along the way, all while accompanied by Maui for another thrilling adventure.
The official synopsis reads: “Three years since her first voyage, Moana is on an expansive journey in search of people beyond the shores of Motunui, joined by Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”
The first trailer arrives more than a year after Dwayne Johnson revealed plans for a live-action adaptation of the film, slated for release in 2026. Additionally, Johnson has recently confirmed on Instagram that production will begin this fall.
Moana 2 will be in theaters November 27.
