‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ Final Trailer Offers Dark Insight into Parents José and Kitty

The latest trailer delves into the Menendez family’s dark history!

Netflix has dropped the final trailer for their highly anticipated crime series, just a week after the previous trailer’s release. This latest preview for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story reveals an insight into José and Kitty Menendez, the parents of the real-life brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez. The trailer exposes the troubling dynamics of the now-deceased parents, played by Javier Bardem & Chloë Sevigny in this Netflix anthology series.

In this final trailer, we are introduced to the darker side of José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, in Ryan Murphy‘s latest installment in the Monsters series. The trailer begins with a tense conversation between José, played by Barden, and his son Lyle, played by Nicholas Chavez. In a chilling moment, José compares Lyle to a disobeying dog and remarks, “I think that I didn’t hit you hard enough,” before slapping his son across the face. He adds, “So as a father, that is my fault. And I’m sorry,” followed by a troubling kiss on the cheek.

Additionally, Sevigny’s portrayal of Kitty features a haunting confession. She says, “I hate my kids,” expressing how they have transformed both her and her husband into people they no longer recognize. “They’ve turned us into people we don’t want to be,” she admits. This revelation sets the stage for the series’ exploration of the Menendez family’s dark history.

Netflix’s official summary reads: Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story follows Lyle and Erik Menendez, two brothers who fatally shot their parents in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. During their trials, the brothers cited years of abuse as the reason for murdering their parents. However, prosecutors argued that their motive was to get their hands on the family fortune.

While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed — and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole — that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story dives into the historic case that took the world by storm, paved the way for audiences’ modern-day fascination with true crime, and in return asks those audiences: Who are the real monsters?

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will be released on Netflix September 19.
