Netflix isn’t wasting time when it comes to Black Doves. With the streaming giant officially greenlighting a second season of the espionage thriller in December, the cameras are now set to roll in July 2025. With that production schedule, we can expect Season 2 to hit the service sometime in 2026—most likely in spring or early summer. As reported by What’s on Netflix.
Joe Barton, known for his work on Giri/Haji and The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, returns as creator and writer. Backed by production outfits Noisy Bear and SISTER, the series continues to benefit from Netflix’s confidence after the show pulled in 12 million viewers in its first week, certifying it as a hit and with it topping charts in nearly 20 countries, season two was almost a certainty.

Season 2 will likely dive even deeper into the high-stakes game of secrets and betrayal. Helen Webb, played by Keira Knightley, is now closer than ever to the political center of power, thanks to her husband’s rise to Secretary of State for Defence and the looming possibility of moving into 10 Downing Street. MI5 has cleared Helen—thanks to the sacrifice of her late lover Jason—but her troubles are far from over.
One major complication? Marie, the seemingly innocent nanny, is secretly a Black Dove operative under the direction of the icy Reed. Helen remains unaware, for now. But when the truth comes out, Marie might find herself the scapegoat if intelligence leaks start to surface.

Then there’s Sam, the morally torn assassin portrayed by Ben Whishaw. After taking the fall to protect Helen from a murder charge, he’s now a marked man. But a potential alliance with crime boss Hector Newman may offer him a lifeline—or a fresh set of enemies.
As for the show’s signature mix of style and tension, Barton has hinted that the Christmas-themed backdrop of Season 1 won’t constrain future installments. So we can expect the tone to shift, but not the stakes. No official release date has been confirmed, but production updates should begin surfacing once filming begins this summer.
